New York Giants Trade Rumor Tracker

UPDATED: 9:15 a.m., November 5

The New York Giants' 2024 season is in its final stages as they need to overcome the crisis thanks to a four-game losing streak that has dropped their season record to 2-7.

Given the state of the franchise, many believe it would be in the team's best interest to move some of the veterans who are unlikely to be in the team's long-term plans, such as outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari and receiver Darius Slayton among them are in the final year of their respective contracts and neither has had contract extension discussions with the team, according to a source.

How close are the Giants to moving one or both (or neither)? Stick around until the trade deadline, which is Tuesday, November 5th at 4:00 pm ET, as we try to make sense of the latest rumors.

Nov. 5, 9:15 a.m. As mentioned yesterday, the Cleveland Browns traded edge rusher Za'Darius Smith to the Detroit Lions, adding another potential trade partner to the Giants to send edge Azeez Ojulari off the board.

The Smith-Detroit trade makes sense. Smith is 32 years old and likely won't be in the Lions' plans once Aiden Hutchinson recovers from a broken leg. If he moves on, the 24-year-old Ojulari would be better off if a team plans to keep him long-term.

November 4, 7:30 p.m. ET. Another potential trade window for the Giants appears to be closing as they look to move on from linebacker Azeez Ojulari.

According to NBC Sports: “the current expectation“Cleveland edge rusher Za'Darius Smith is being traded to the Detroit Lions, who need pass-rushing help after losing Aidan Hutchinson for a year.

Should this trade actually happen, the Atlanta Falcons would be the last team believed to be looking for pass rush help. Although it is not known that the Giants are definitely General manager Joe Schoen is looking to transfer Ojulari, let alone anyone if he does, and is probably looking for more than just a fifth- or sixth-round pick than what the Broncos got for Baron Browning.

As he probably should. Browning is 25 years old and has 9.5 sacks in 43 games. Ojulari is 24 years old and has 22 career sacks in 44 career games. With Ojulari, it was never so much about his talent as it was about his injury history.

November 4, 2:30 p.m. ET. Azeez Ojulari remains the most likely candidate to be traded by the deadline. The Giants signed OLB Tomon Fox from their practice squad to the 53-man roster last week, a move made primarily for special teams reasons.

However, if the Giants move on from Ojulari, they could try to get by with Fox alongside Brian Burns against the Panthers, at least until Kayvon Thibodeaux, who will likely be back after the bye.

Teams linked to a possible move for Ojualri include Arizona, Detroit and Atlanta. However, that is The Cardinals just acquired Broncos edge rusher Baron Browning from the Broncos for a sixth-round pick, essentially eliminating the Cardinals from discussions for Ojulari.

November 4, 2:00 p.m. ET. Receiver Darius Slayton landed in the league's protocol after he was injured late in the fourth quarter in the team's loss to the Washington Commanders, an incident that initially cast doubt on any questions about a potential trade since most trades only become official If a player is present there is a physical examination.

Slayton's current status will have no influence whether he can be traded if the Giants wish, as long as a potential trade partner is comfortable with where Slayton is in the protocol.

However, the chances of the Giants trading Slayton, who ranks second on the team in receiving yards and has played such a large part of their offense, appear to be slim at best.
