Peter Berg and Taylor Kitsch have worked together on several great projects in the past, such as: Friday Night Lights and the feature film Lone survivorand her latest – a gritty limited series about the 19th century American West – is coming soon to Netflix.

American prehistoric era is a six-part dramatization of the U.S.'s brutal western border, premiering in January, and starring Kitsch as “Isaac, a traumatized man struggling to overcome his demons.” The Berg-directed series is set in 1857 and seems to be a much darker and more violent version of something like this Yellowstone. Importantly, this is also the second Netflix collaboration between Berg, Kitsch and showrunner Eric Newman (Griselda, Narcos, The Guardian), all of whom have already worked together on 2023 Painkillers.

In the new series, Netflix explains: “Up is down, pain is everywhere, and innocence and calm are losing the battle against hate and fear.” Peace is the shrinking minority, and very few have mercy – even fewer know compassion. There is no safe haven in these brutal lands and only one goal matters: survival.

“American prehistoric era is a fictional dramatization and examination of the violent collision of culture, religion and community as men and women fight and die to keep or control this land.”

Like westerns American prehistoric eraalong with the newly released Australian series AreaYou'll definitely have a lot of fun with the streaming giant. As for the former, characters such as soldiers, settlers, trappers, bounty hunters and tribal warriors are portrayed. Sons of AnarchyKim Coates will portray Brigham Young, leader of the Mormon Church, while Betty Gilpin will be present as a woman named Sara Rowell – Netflix describes her as a mother seeking a guide across the border for herself and her son.
