NC State football quarterback Grayson McCall suffered a horrific injury in the first quarter of Saturday's game against Wake Forest.

McCall ran the ball up the middle and was met by several Demon Deacon defenders, one of whom appeared to have helmet-to-helmet contact with McCall. McCall's helmet and the ball were also ripped off and Wake Forest recovered the fumble.

McCall was stretchered off the field but appeared to have full arm movement. He reportedly pointed to the sky as he was taken off the field. According to the CW Network broadcast, McCall was taken to WakeMed Hospital. McCall had missed the last two NC State games due to injury.

After the game, NC State announced that McCall was released from the hospital and is in good spirits after his scans came back positive.

4:18 p.m.: After the game, NC State football coach Dave Doeren said, “All reports from the hospital are positive” regarding McCall, according to Rodd Baxley of the Fayetteville Observer.

“I was worried about him. Everyone was screaming, he was taking aim,” Doeren said. “From where I was standing I couldn’t see it. I was more worried about him. …Grayson, when he came to, he was talking.”

McCall suffered his injury when he was hit by a Wake Forest defender on the Wolfpack's first drive of the game in the first quarter. The NC State medical team treated him on the field before he was stretchered out. Here's a look at McCall's injury:

NC State announced later Saturday evening that McCall was released from the hospital after receiving positive news from all of his scans.

Although the nature of the injury has not yet been confirmed, McCall has a history of concussions and head injuries.

The quarterback suffered a head injury last year against Coastal Carolina that ended his season and could have ended his career.
