Morata says Milan need 'personality' against Real Madrid and Leao is 'born for these games'

Ahead of the big clash between AC Milan and Real Madrid, Alvaro Morata spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the upcoming task facing his former team.

Morata spent several years at Real Madrid after joining the academy from rivals Atlético Madrid at a relatively young age, making 95 appearances for the first team. In these games he scored 59 times and prepared another 39 goals.

Speaking to Sky Italia (via MilanNews) ahead of today's clash between Milan and Real Madrid, Morata was asked about the special game and the demands of the Rossoneri and Rafael Leao. He also sent a message to those affected by the recent severe floods in Spain.

On the Valencia disaster…

“Football is the least important thing now. I know people who are there and I want to give a big hug to everyone who is suffering from this situation. But I'm very proud of the Spanish reaction and of my teammates who are helping the people there. We also help as best we can from a distance. I also hope that the national team can play in Valencia soon.”

About the special game in Madrid…

“We have to arrive here with personality and know that we are Milan and we also have a history behind us. Above all, you can win or lose games, but it is the performance we need: to realize that we can beat important teams and that we can do it again tonight. More than for the people or other teams, we have to do it for ourselves. We have to make a big effort.”

About Rafael Leao…

“He doesn't have to consecrate himself, he's a player at the highest level. I hope it's his first big night here: he was born for these games, for these competitions. Where do I have to sign to make it Leao's night? If it’s his night, it will be Milan’s night too.”

Morata starts on offense for Milan and afterwards a below-average performance against MonzaAll in all, fans want to see a clearer No. 7 in the penalty area. It remains to be seen whether he can score against his former team.
