Monday Night Football odds, picks, best bets

Monday Night Football odds, picks, best bets

It's been quite a week in New York.

The Yankees and Mets qualified for the MLB Final Four and were, at least for now, in the spotlight of the Jets, who fired head coach Robert Saleh and relieved Nathaniel Hackett of his playing duties.

Six days after the shocking news of Saleh's firing, the Jets are turning around and hosting division rival Buffalo on Monday night. That's a lot to ask of any team, especially a team as dysfunctional as Gang Green.

If the Bills win, they will extend their lead over the rest of the AFC East, while a head-to-head lead over the Bills will allow the Jets to take the division lead with a win.

Can the Jets rally behind interim coach Jeff Ulbrich and secure a decisive win?

The chances are good that they won't win outright, but the spread is different.

Bills vs. Jets prediction against the spread

The Jets entered this game as home favorites with a one-point lead, but the score has since shifted to 2.5 points in favor of the Bills. In the first five weeks, both teams are only 2:3.

Last week against the Vikings, the Jets were as bad as they could have been offensively, committing three turnovers and rushing for just 36 yards. All three turnovers were interceptions by Aaron Rodgers, including a pick-six in the first quarter.

Rodgers (knee) and Bills QB Josh Allen (head) suffered injuries in Week 5, but each missed just a single snap before returning to finish their respective games. Both have taken part in training all week and are expected to play on Monday.

Even with a healthy Allen, Buffalo has looked difficult the last two weeks, dropping 25 points against the Ravens and just one field goal against the Texans.

Allen completed just nine of his 30 attempts in the Houston game, and the Bills outgained the team by nearly 150 yards in total offense.

Allen and his receivers weren't seeing eye to eye, and Buffalo's defense, a strength in recent years, allowed a total of 427 and 425 yards, respectively, in the last two games.

According to Action Network, since 2003 there have been 38 teams that have fired their coach during the season. These teams have won 17-21 in a row (SU) and 22-16 against the table (ATS) in their first game with their new head coach.

Rodgers also has the NFL's best ATS record in night home games (28-14-1), according to Action Network. When facing a divisional opponent, that mark is a league-best ATS of 19-6.

Recommendation: Jets +2.5 (-108, FanDuel)

Bills vs. Jets Over/Under Pick

At some sportsbooks, the total points have dropped from 47.5 points at the start to just 40.5. The Jets have a 1-3-1 over record, while Buffalo has exceeded the point total twice in five games.

After giving up 7.9 yards per play to the Ravens, Buffalo gave up 6.3 yards per play to the Texans. That shouldn't be a problem against the Jets, who were pathetically bad on offense, ranking 27th in total yards per game and 23rd in offensive DVOA.

Breece Hall has totaled just 27 rushing yards on 19 attempts in his last two games, receiving no help from Rodgers, who once spent an entire season (2018) with fewer interceptions (2) than against the Texans.

Betting on the NFL?

The Jets could turn things around and get a win, but it's hard to imagine that will be the case because they've put a boatload of points on the field.

Recommendation: Slight tendency towards under 41 points (-110, Caesars).
