Minnesota Weather: Snow won't stop Halloween trick-or-treating

Despite the snow and chilly weather on Thursday, children in Minnesota still enjoyed Halloween. After it was 30 degrees at the beginning of the week, you might think that Halloween was a magic spell after the snowfall and cooler temperatures.

“It's really cold but it's fun because we all still want lots of candy,” some trick-or-treaters said.

Cold could be an understatement, especially when you go from house to house dressed as your favorite character. But for others, it's a family tradition.

“My dad was older and went trick-or-treating in the snow. It’s kind of fun, he did that, I do that,” Audrey Erm said.

Trick-or-treating on Thursday night isn't nearly as bad as Halloween 1991. For the little ones, it's all fun and games.

While it's fun to show the kids trick-or-treating, the excitement and sugar rush doesn't warm the temperatures.

“We're out here enjoying trick-or-treating in this cold, cold temperature, it shouldn't be like this,” Sonny Ozuna said.

While others wouldn't have it any other way.

“No, are you kidding? It’s Minnesota,” Laura Tokgoz said.

“Whether it rains or snows, we just try to get it going. He needs to have his first Minnesota experience. He has to be prepared for everything,” said Volkan Tokgoz.

For Volkan Tokgoz and his family of three, the only way to distribute candy is the Minnesota method. So the cooler temperatures are perfect Halloween weather for them.

“It's okay, at least for us it's not that cold. But it's fun. I’m glad everyone is out here,” Tokgoz said.

Many of the trick-or-treaters FOX 9 spoke with also held a parade in an Edina neighborhood. Rain or snow, the trick-or-treating continued.
