Millions of Washingtonians cast their final vote during Election Day

Millions of Americans have just hours left to cast their votes by mail and at the polls on Election Day, deciding the country's fate for the next four years and beyond.

Vice President Kamala Harris will host an election night party at Howard University in Washington, DC, her alma mater. Former President Donald Trump will host his watch party at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Just yesterday the candidates made their final push to voters in the election campaign.

“Our campaign captured the ambitions, aspirations and dreams of the American people,” said Vice President Kamala Harris. “We know it is time for a new generation of leadership in America.”

“Are you doing better now than you were four years ago?” said former President Donald Trump. “I’ve asked this question so many times that I’ve never seen one hand reach out to the other.”

In Congress, polls suggest Republicans could win the majority in the Senate and Democrats could retake the House in a closer race.

In Washington state, residents are preparing for an important election in November. Several key state races and initiatives are on the ballot.

According to the Washington Secretary of State, voters will decide 11 U.S. Congressional races, 25 state Senate races, 98 state representative races and nine statewide leadership races.

In addition to these races, there are several initiatives to choose from.

One initiative could potentially eliminate the state's Climate Commitment Act programs, which critics say have contributed to rising gas prices in the state. Advocates, meanwhile, claim that rolling back protections could harm the environment even further.

Voter turnout in Washington rose to nearly 57%, according to election officials. More than 10,000 people have registered to vote in this election in the state, bringing the total number of registered voters to just over 5 million.

These newly registered voters include first-time voters, people who recently moved to the state and new residents.

Election officials are urging those who have not yet voted to make sure their ballots are submitted on time. Voters must submit their ballot to an election office or ballot drop box by 8 p.m. Tuesday.
