Michigan State Spartans vs Indiana Hoosiers football

Michigan State Spartans vs Indiana Hoosiers football

Another Chiles pick leads to the Hoosiers goal

Oof. It's now 21-10 very quickly. Aidan Chiles threw his second pick of the day, this one in his own territory, and Indiana is too good to continue wasting those chances. MSU needs a change of momentum quickly.

Indiana takes the lead again

The dynamic at Spartan Stadium has definitely changed. Indiana now leads 14-10 with 6:22 left in the first half. The impending push for the Spartans' offense seems pretty crucial right now, at least to tip the field position battle back in its favor.

Defense is very important

Charles Brantley has been great lately. He makes a great play to maybe prevent a touchdown and then the defense disappears from the field. MSU takes the lead again within its own five.

Chile's INT stops driving

Phew. Chiles had played such a clean game so far and was simply overwhelmed by that last throw against Jack Velling. A tip and a pick now put Indiana in the middle of the field.

Indiana fights back, 10-7 early in the second quarter

This is the first time Indiana has trailed all season, and they put together a nice response. The Hoosiers went straight down the field and brought the score back to 10-7. Zach Horton caught the 17-yard score. 14:13 left in the half.

Touchdown, MSU!

Y'all, Nick Marsh is incredible. An incredible touchdown catch by the freshman gives the Spartans an early 10-0 lead. Chiles is also doing well, completing 7 of his 11 throws for over 100 yards and a touchdown. He is also the leading rusher, including a crucial first-down run on third down. There are 2:39 left in the first quarter.

Three and out, part 2

Michigan State came to play defense. This stop was supported by a third downdrop, but it's still three and out. The offensive is increasing again.

Chiles to Marsh prepares a Kim FG

Nick Marsh is a stallion. This isn't new news, but he's real. An outstanding third down grab for 33 yards moved the chains for the Spartans, and Aziah Johnson and Montorie Foster also got involved, setting up a 47-yard field goal by Jonathan Kim.

Three and out

Much has been written about Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke and his injured thumb. Hard to say how he feels on that first drive, but it's a three and out. First the offensive.

The Spartans' defense comes first

First place: Hoosiers vs. Michigan State in East Lansing. Nice.

Michigan State begins the final third of its season at home against undefeated Indiana.

After a loss to rival Michigan last week, the Spartans (4-4, 2-3 Big Ten) must win two of their last four games to earn bowl eligibility, something the program hasn't accomplished since 2021. It helps that three remaining four games are in East Lansing.

The final round begins against an Indiana team that is in the midst of a historic season. The Hoosiers, ranked No. 13 in the country, are off to an 8-0 start, the first time they've done that since 1967. The Hoosiers have never won 10 games in a single season and appear to have the talent under first-year coach Curt Cignetti.

Michigan State will try to spoil Indiana's perfect season and retain possession of the Old Brass Spittoon, the trophy awarded to the winner of this match.
