Trainor has made a name for herself for being uncompromising in everything she does and inspiring others to do the same. Not only is she a popular, Grammy-winning singer, but she is also the proud mother of two boys and four dogs! For those who don't know, she and her husband Daryl Sabara have two wonderful sons named Riley, born in February 2021, and Barry, born in July 2023. As we said, she is not only a new mother; Mom to four sweet dogs named Biggie, Ruby, Lilo and Soca!

Trainor recently sat down with SheKnows to talk about everything from her work with Freshpet, parenting and her sons' bond with their four dogs. Sitting down with her now is like sitting with a friend you haven't seen in a long time, eager to catch up. She and the answers she gave exude a true warmth that you wouldn't normally expect from an A-lister. You can tell she truly loves her family and loves that she can use her platform to help them whenever she can.

See everything Trainor told SheKnows about her amazing collaboration with Freshpet below:

SheKnows: Can you tell me why you collaborated with Freshpet for this collection?

Meghan Trainor: Oh, because my dogs are obsessed with this food and I prioritize feeding our pets real, fresh food. That's why I've always been looking for a company like this for my babies. Then when we wanted to work together, the idea came to me: “Dude, I have to write you a song.” As it should be, I'm a dog mom, and if you want people to know the name better, we have to put Freshpet in that Sing song.” I literally started writing it the first time we met, and then they came up with the incredible idea of making a sweatshirt that said “Dog Mom” or “Dog Dad.” It's such a nice collaboration because now we're going to sell them and all the proceeds will go to animal shelters in need. It aligns with all of my beliefs about my four beautiful dogs.

SK: So are you the one who does most of the food preparation and feeding for your dogs?

MT: Actually, my husband does because he gets up before me. So he gets up and always feeds the dogs, lets them go out to poop, and then feeds them. Then I come down with the babies and then I'm on baby patrol trying to get there. So yes, my house is chaotic.

SK: How have pets changed your life?

MT: They give you so much love and are the best companions. They taught me responsibility and helped me prepare for the birth of a child. Like getting up and taking care of your life, you know? So that helped a lot.

SK: What is your goal to ensure that you, your children, your pets, and everyone else simply live healthier, happier lives?

MT: A goal I have: I have to learn to eat like this so I can live forever. That's why it's very important to me what my dogs eat. And because I want them to live forever and ever. Before we got pregnant, my husband was obsessed with reading ingredients and so now we read the ingredients on everything, especially our dog food. So that's our goal: clean eating and real food.

SK: Do you have any plans to get more pets in the future?

MT: My husband says no. (But) Never say never, you know, who knows?

SK: Are there any specific pet-friendly activities you enjoy doing as a family?

MT: We always go for walks together and Riley, my three-year-old, is strong enough to carry our small dogs. He loves to say, “Can I hold her?” He’s really good at it. We're walking around the neighborhood and then along comes my younger one, Barry, my one-year-old, who is obsessed with playing fetch with our Chihuahua, Lilo. (It's) like he's having the time of his life, and it's the sweetest and best thing to look at.

SK: Oh, Halloween is coming up, do you have any really cute traditions in your family that involve your dogs?

MT: Yes, I've worn them before. But we dress up every year, and this year we're going to do a Paw Patrol theme. I'm pretty excited about it. And in the truest sense of the word, they are all puppies. Oh my god, I didn't even realize that. So yes, he loves Paw Patrol. We will all be different types of dogs.

SK: Speaking of your sons again: Do your sons have a favorite song of yours?

MT: They always sing the Freshpet song. They love it. And my younger brother produced it with me, so we always play it at home because we're so proud. But my youngest started doing the bottom dance. He recently started dancing, which is exciting. And then, my 3-year-old, it's the new song for him every day. He is a real Meghan Trainor fan. It's strange. He loves “To The Moon” because he loves rocket ships, and he’s in the music video. I think that's his number one.

SK: So I know you're on tour right now. Do you have a favorite moment on tour with your kids so far?

MT: We have actually had puppies and kittens put up for adoption at animal shelters. My kids just loved playing with them and seeing them and it was so beautiful and cute; and I hope they get adopted. Other than that, they just love the venues, they love the buses, and they have these recycling garbage trucks to ride on. That was like her favorite thing in life, riding through the halls with her headphones on and going backstage.

SK: Going back to being a superstar, a mom, and a pet mom, do you have any mantras or tricks that you use to maintain balance? I know it's never a perfect balance, but do you have anything at all to help you maintain balance?

MT: I do therapy every Wednesday and I have a lot of help at my house. It's like I have family visiting all the time. I have an incredible nanny who helps with the kids and the dogs, and I have an uncle who is at my house every day and walks dogs when we are not there. Yeah, I just have a lot of friends and family that come over all the time. I don't like being alone. I'm codependent and that makes life better.
