It's Election Day and all eyes are on presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. While the former president may return to the Oval Office, his son Barron is heading out into the world as he begins college.

The son is back in New York, where he is attending New York University's Stern School of Business, but according to his mother Melania, with whom he is very close, he hasn't quite left the nest yet.

“I can’t say I’m an empty nester,” Melania told Fox News. “It was his decision to come here, that he wanted to be in New York and study in New York and live in his home, and I respect that.”

As Donald's youngest son, Barron lived a life of luxury, growing up in the family's spacious penthouse and attending a private school in Manhattan. His life was turned upside down in some ways when he moved into the White House at the age of 10.

He is bilingual

Barron was born in March 2006 and grew up speaking both English and Slovenian, giving him a connection to his mother Melania's homeland. As a child, he called his grandmother and spoke only Slovenian to her, although he speaks mostly English in public.

His expensive school experience

After growing up in prestigious private schools on Manhattan's Upper West Side, Barron transferred to St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Maryland, where the 2024-25 tuition is a staggering $52,535.

He finished his schooling earlier this year and graduated from Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach in June. Melania and Donald spent an outrageous $41,500, including breakfast, lunch, snacks, textbooks, learning support services and academic advising services.

Grew up in the White House

Barron moved into the White House in January 2017, although he was undoubtedly hesitant about the move. His father said: “He goes to a very good school in New York where he has lots of friends. But I tell him that if that happens, Dad will help people and can help children like him and that makes him happy. He's a little boy who's 9 years old and he's strong and smart and he gets it.

He is following in his father's footsteps

Barron attended his first campaign rally in July 2024, where Front Row Joes and other Trump supporters gave him thunderous applause.

His father said of his son: “You're pretty popular, he might be more popular than Don and Eric. So Barron, it's good to have you. (He) had such a nice, simple life. Now it’s a little different.”

Meanwhile, Melania calls him “Little Donald.”

“He is a very strong-willed, very special, smart boy. He is independent and stubborn and knows exactly what he wants. Sometimes I call him little Donald. He's a mix of us in looks, but his personality is why I call him Little Donald,” she told Parenting.com.

Barron declined to be an RNC delegate to the Republican National Convention on his father's behalf.

“While Barron is honored to have been selected as a delegate by the Republican Party of Florida, he unfortunately declines to participate due to prior commitments,” a spokeswoman for Melania's office said in a statement first reported by the Daily Mail.

His love life

Barron may be 18 and heading off to college, but his father doesn't think he's “finished yet” when it comes to his love life.

“He’s very smart,” Donald said. “He’s a good student and all. He goes to a great school and does really well. And he’s a very nice guy.”

“You see that (but) I’m not sure that’s him – I don’t think he’s had a girlfriend yet. I don’t think so,” he continued. “He doesn’t mind being alone, but he’s someone who gets along with people.”
