The Flyers felt strongly that Matvei Michkov would change the look of their power play.

“We're hoping he can help us just on the power play,” general manager Danny Briere said on July 1.

You saw that he only provided significant help for three games in his rookie year.

The acclaimed 19-year-old winger scored his first career NHL goal on Tuesday night as the Flyers used the power play to take a 1-0 lead over the Oilers at Rogers Place. Less than five minutes later, Michkov scored his second goal on the power play.

Last season, the Flyers' man advantage was 1-for-20 at the start and finished the year at 12.2 percent, the worst in the league. In seven games this season, the Flyers' power play was 4 for 12. Michkov scored two of the goals and set up another.

“I think the sky’s the limit for him,” Joel Farabee said in September.

The Flyers lost 4-3 to Edmonton in overtime.
