Mark Belling of Milwaukee will convert the WISN-AM (1130) program into a podcast

Longtime Milwaukee conservative radio host Mark Belling will convert his radio program on WISN-AM (1130) to a podcast-only show by year's end, he announced in a news release Tuesday.

“My show, in its new form, will be bigger and better than ever before,” Belling said in the announcement, emphasizing that he is not retiring.

The content of his programming will continue to be a combination of local and national topics, as in his radio show, the release said. But Belling wants it to be “even more permissive than my current anything-goes approach.”

According to a previous Journal Sentinel report, Belling joined WISN in March 1989 as the news station's drive-time anchor and has been a fixture on local talk radio ever since. According to his website, he is currently the weekday afternoon drive-time host on News/Talk 1130 WISN-AM.

When he started his show in Milwaukee, Belling wanted to be “the best local radio talk show in America,” he said in the press release.

“I feel like I have achieved this goal in every way,” he said in the press release. “The latest Nielsen ratings give my show the highest audience share of any local talk show in the United States (Top 48 markets, also known as metered markets). In addition…WISN-AM is the most listened to radio station in the state.

Living in an on-demand world, “the future of spoken word programming” lies in podcasting, he said in the press release. The podcasting route would also give him more flexibility and freedom, he said. Additionally, his current radio program is already a popular podcast on iHeartMedia, WISN-AM's parent company.

Belling will remain with iHeartMedia for his new podcast, recording it in Milwaukee and the WISN-AM studios, the release said. Starting May 1, 2025, at least three episodes will be released every week.

The final “Mark Belling Late Afternoon Show” will air December 30, 2024 on WISN-AM (1130).
