Manchester United players are “unhappy” after draw against Fenerbahce.

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana described the 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce in the Europa League as a “big disappointment”.

United led through Christian Eriksen before Youssef En-Nesyri equalized just after half-time. Onana played his part with an impressive double save from En-Nesyri to earn United a point, but afterwards the goalkeeper insisted the dressing room was “not happy”.

“It is a big disappointment for me and the fans, for the club. As a Manchester United player you have a duty to try to win,” Onana told TNT Sports. “We didn’t win, but at least we didn’t lose. Of course we’re not happy, but we carry on, take responsibility and move on.”

“We conceded an early goal in the second half, we had to show character and I think we succeeded. We didn’t win, but I thought we were better than them.”

On a sometimes chaotic evening in Istanbul, Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for his protests after he felt his team should have been awarded a penalty in the second half. Mourinho went to see referee Clement Turpin after the game and said the referee's explanation was “unbelievable”.

However, Erik ten Hag, who was missing ten players due to injury or suspension, was keen to take the positives ahead of his trip to West Ham United on Sunday.

“We showed that we are a team that is hard to beat,” said the Dutchman. “We can gain confidence and take it into the game against West Ham.”

“We have to win and we were able to win. We created chances, but we have to play better. We let the opponent get away with a point.”

United winger Antony was injured late in the game after coming on as a substitute for Marcus Rashford in the second half. The Brazilian left the pitch on a stretcher and was seen leaving the stadium wearing a protective boot.

“His training performance is so good that he deserves to come on,” said Ten Hag. “If you have to leave so quickly, it’s really sad. Hopefully it’s not too bad, we have to wait 24 hours for the assessment.”
