Man City's Rodri has to leave the field against Arsenal due to injury

Manchester City midfielder Rodri left the field due to injury during the first half of the Premier League summit against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was injured during a City corner attempt and fell to the ground in pain before being replaced by Mateo Kovacic.

“Rodri is strong, but he left the pitch. To be able to do that, Rodri must have felt something,” said Man City coach Pep Guardiola after the game.

Man City scored a late goal in second-half stoppage time through John Stones to equalise, allowing the defending champions to salvage a 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

The incident occurred after a clash between Rodri and Arsenal striker Kai Havertz just seconds after kick-off, when Havertz appeared to collide with him.

“I don't know, the truth is, I don't know (how Rodri is),” teammate Bernardo Silva said after the game. “He can walk, I don't know if there is anything else but so far we don't know. I think we will know more tomorrow. I don't think (Rodri) walked (on crutches), not now. But he left in a bad state, he wasn't very well, he asked to be substituted. Let's see what the doctors say.”

Rodri was ruled out for City's start to the season after suffering a thigh injury during the 2024 European Championship.

After a successful run with the Spanish national team in the summer, Rodri catapulted himself into contention for the Ballon d'Or.
