Madrid and Barcelona are bidding for the 2027 Champions League final

The decision-making process for the 2027 Champions League final is underway and Spain's two largest cities are looking forward to hosting both games. This year San Mames will host the Europa League final in Bilbao.

According to Relevo, the Metropolitano in Madrid is one of the two favorites to host the men's Champions League final in three years, along with the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. After the San Siro in Milan failed and could not guarantee that renovations would be completed on time, Madrid and Baku are aiming for the final together with UEFA. The Metropolitano also hosted the climax of the Champions League between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in 2019.

Meanwhile, Barcelona's Camp Nou has applied to host the Women's Champions League final later that year, which also took place in Bilbao in May. However, they face greater competition: the National Stadium in Warsaw (Poland), St. Jakob Park in Basel (Switzerland) and the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff (Wales) are all bidding for the event.

The next Champions League final will be played in Munich at the Allianz Arena before moving to Budapest in 2026. The naming of the final will take place by May 19, 2025. Atlético Madrid recently expanded the Metropolitano by several hundred seats, taking the capacity to 70,000, a slight increase compared to the 68,700 seats in Baku. Meanwhile, President Joan Laporta aims to fully open the Camp Nou with a capacity of 105,000 people by 2027.
