play

Bonjour, Louisville women's basketball.

The No. 17 Cardinals open the season in France today with a top-20 matchup against sixth-ranked UCLA at 2:30 p.m. The two programs have never played before and are doing so as participants in the second annual Aflac Oui Play event.

U of L has won seven of its last eight season-opening games and is 9-0 on the road to start the year. The program is coming off its 14th straight 20-win season, following a 24-10 season last year. This season, the Cardinals are young but are led by veteran returnees Olivia Cochran and Merissah Russell, who are in their final year of eligibility, as well as Jayda Curry and Nyla Harris.

UCLA entered the Sweet 16 in the 2023-24 season with a record of 27-7 and returns six players. These include top scorers Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice.

The Aflac Oui Play contest between the Cardinals and Bruins will air on ESPN2. Ryan Ruocco and Rebecca Lobo will dominate the game.

Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Cortnee Walton (analyst) will host the call on the Cardinal Sports Network (WLCL 93.9-FM and WGTK 970-AM in Louisville).
