After an initial frenzy of voting this morning, lines have shrunk at most polling places we saw here in Atlanta, a city in the heart of one of the most reliably Democratic counties in America.

The pressure has been eased by early voting, as well over half of voters in the state of Georgia – more than four million approximately – cast their ballots before Election Day.

I meet David Schnee, a volunteer poll watcher for the Democratic Party, who tells me he's worried about changes to the way people in this state can vote.

Voters in Georgia must cast their ballots at their assigned polling place, but in 2020, those who showed up at the wrong polling place were still able to cast provisional ballots.

If they appear before 5:00 p.m. local time (10:00 p.m. GMT) this year, this will no longer be possible.

“We organized rides – there are volunteers with cars – and in some cases the right polling place is more than an hour away,” he tells me.

Teerica Doward is one of these people. She recently moved and didn't realize her voter registration was still tied to the polling place at her old address, which is a 30-minute drive away.

She suspects the new rules are aimed at making it harder for Georgia's working class to vote. “I feel like everything is the way it is and I wish we could just vote where we are,” she tells me, adding, “I know who I'm voting for, I'm voting for Kamala Harris. “ .”

In this state, every vote counts. Joe Biden won Georgia by less than 12,000 votes in 2020.
