Big problems in Georgia

Trump criminal case: Georgia is at the center of former President Donald Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 election. On January 2, 2021, Trump called Raffensperger and other election officials: I ask them to “find” 11,780 votes. – or “one more vote than we have.” District Attorney Fani Willis of Fulton County, Georgia, was indicted Trump and 18 others with election interference, although the proceedings are currently discontinued. Trump has denied wrongdoing.

Abortion: Georgia has a six-week abortion ban that went into effect after the 2022 Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. The state Supreme Court has since upheld the measure despite efforts from abortion rights groups. Vice President Kamala Harris has advocated for the issue in the stateespecially after that Death of two women. An investigation found the women's deaths were preventable but prevented by the state's abortion ban.

Big races in Georgia

There are no big-ticket races in Georgia this year. Fiery Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who represents a northern Georgia district, is in a safe red district.

In a special runoff election on January 5, 2021, both Georgia Senate seats became Democratic. Trump had fought intensively in advance to keep it in the hands of the Republicans. Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock was elected to complete one term and re-elected in 2022. The other Democrat, Sen. Jon Ossoff, will run for re-election in 2026.

Trump tried to endorse primary challengers Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in 2022, but they ultimately prevailed.
