Kohler girls, Cedar Grove-Belgium boys champions

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Kohler Blue Bombers girls cross country team made history Saturday by winning the WIAA Division 3 state championship.

Maggie Behler led Kohler to finish second overall with a time of 18 minutes, 20.4 seconds at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

It is the second year in a row that Behler, a sophomore, finished second at state.

Her teammates Lillian Pociask (ninth, 19:21.2), Ella Loest (48th, 20:55.5), Emily Hocevar (59th, 21:06.3) and Sophia Kwacz (66th) also scored for the Blue Bombers ., 21:18.8).

Kohler narrowly edged out Aquinas in the championship, finishing the game with a team score of 95 compared to Aquinas' 98.

Also from the area and in the top 20 in Girls Division 3 was Juliana Doerner of Mishicot (20th, 20:08.7).

Cedar Grove-Belgium boys win WIAA Division 3 state title

The Cedar Grove-Belgium Rockets boys pulled off a clean sweep of the Division 3 regional teams, winning the program's first title since 2009.

The Rockets also finished second in 2008 and 2010.

Leading the way for Cedar Grove-Belgium was Will Huenink, who finished ninth overall (16:31.1).

Wes Huenink (19th, 16:51.9), Jamison Velzke (25th, 17:01.8), Jack Krause (73rd, 18:08.7) and Nolan Brill (74th, 18:09.3).

Matthew Wilterdink of Oostburg was the region's top individual player in Division 3, finishing fourth (16:10.1).

Nicholas Schubert of Ozaukee also placed in the top 20 in D3, finishing 17th (16:45.6).
