Kewaunee girls top the list of participants at the state cross-country meet on Saturday

The Kewaunee girls cross country team and four others will compete in the WIAA State Cross Country Championships this morning in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Kewaunee girls cross country team secured its spot by finishing second in the Manitowoc Lutheran Sectional with 97 points, 42 points behind first-place Valders. The Storm boasts the section's individual champion: Hannah Miller won the race with a time of 19:23. Southern Door's Ben Grota and Lucas Conard ran identical 17:21 5K times and placed 4th and 5th overall to secure their spots in the state field. In Kiel, Kyan Lynts from Luxemburg-Casco secured his place in the state field with a time of 16:24, finishing fourth. His teammate Claire DuChateau did even better, placing third in the girls race with a time of 19:26, qualifying for the state championship field.

In Division 2, DuChateau will start from box 21 while Lynts will start from box 21.

In Division 3, the Kewaunee girls will start in Box 8 while Conard and Grota will start in Box 2.
