As is well known, they fell in love on the show “The Americans” – and a lasting relationship developed between stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys.

So much so that before meeting Matthew, 49, Keri, 48, said she couldn't “remember any other relationships.”

The actress told People: “It can be a really nice shortcut because they know what work means to you, but it can also feel like a lot sometimes,” she said Tuesday while with a fellow actor.

“But it can be nice to have someone who's doing something completely different, so there's something of a break.” “But I've been with Matthew for so long that I can't remember any other relationships,” joked she.

Russell was previously married to Shane Deary, with whom she has two children, and dated actors Scott Speedman and Tony Lucca.

The actress spoke openly about the complexities of relationships, using as an example her romance with Rufus Sewell, who stars as her husband in the Netflix series The Diplomat.

She said of the political drama series: “This season feels kind of heartbreaking.”

“It feels very adult and true to the reality of knowing someone for so long.” But when it comes to Kate and Hal, you can't have one without the other. It’s so entangled that it’s part of her appeal.”

Russell and Rhys were first linked in 2002 after meeting at a mutual friend's kickball party, where the English actor drunkenly asked for her cell phone number. However, the gesture didn't spark anything at the time.

In 2012, the two reunited on the set of the FX series “The Americans” as husband and wife KGB spies.

Two years later, rumors of their romance began circulating after they appeared together in a GQ photoshoot in January 2014 and looked loved-up at a New York play.

In May 2016, they welcomed their first child together, a son named Sam, who is now eight years old.

Russell shares Willa, 13, and River, 16, with Deary. The exes went their separate ways in 2013, six years after saying “I do.”

Their humorous chat follows her shocking admission that she got “hot and heavy” with Rhys in late 2013, as their on-screen chemistry blossomed into a real-life romance during filming of The Americans.

The Golden Globe winner gushed to Variety: “I was in love with Matthew. “We were so hot and in love that we filmed the spy scenes at night in costumes and wigs.”

The series “The Americans” aired for six seasons from January 30, 2013 to May 30, 2018.

The hit drama revolved around undercover spies (played by Russell and Rhys) who enter into an arranged marriage and pose as ordinary civilians in Washington, DC after the election of Ronald Reagan. The duo skillfully managed a balance between professional responsibilities and parenting while also hiding their true identities from their two children.

After nearly a decade together, Russell and Rhys have yet to publicly announce plans to get married.
