The man was later located and arrested shortly after 2 p.m

“We believe this was indeed an armed suspect with a firearm and there was no legitimate reason for him to enter the school,” police said at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

Only the “quick and careful actions” of school staff prevented the man from entering the school, officials said.

Area schools were placed under lockdown while police searched for the man.
