Kanawha County declares unofficial election results after early recount overnight

UPDATED – 7:45am, 11/6/24

All voting in Kanawha County was completed early Wednesday morning following an overnight recount of early ballots due to a corrupted data stick, officials said.

The Kanawha County Clerk's Office and county commissioners declared the results at 6:43 a.m. after a recount of more than 31,000 early ballots overnight after a data stick storing the total number of early ballots was damaged, according to reports it in a statement from the district.

The ballots were taken to a counting room that was open to the public throughout the night.

The county said the recount did not change the outcome of local races.
