Kamala Harris does not speak after the election defeat, the mood of her supporters is dampened

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to address the nation on Wednesday, a day after she lost the presidential election to Donald Trump.

She did not take the stage at her wake party at her alma mater, Howard University, on Tuesday night.

Campaign spokesman Cedric Richmond told the crowd that Harris did not want to speak immediately so that every vote could be counted.

He promised that Harris would return to the podium when the vote was final, even though Trump and the polls had already declared him the winner.

Meanwhile, her supporters' spirits were dampened as they had hoped that the first woman of color from the San Francisco Bay Area would become president.

“I feel terrible, absolutely terrible,” said Jessica Reid, who voted for Vice President Kamala Harris and attended a watch party at Manny's Restaurant in San Francisco. “This is the worst. Dobbs. January 6th. It's like nothing matters. Like we don't matter. My children wouldn’t matter.”

Andie Leandro of Walnut Creek went to sleep dejected and when she woke up she said she felt “depressed, sad and anxious.”

“I’m not looking forward to the next four years,” Leandro said. “He has already said he will be a dictator from the start.”

The Republicans were, of course, happy with the result.

“I believe that Donald Trump will lead us forward toward a better economy for all Americans,” GOP supporter KKadin True said at a Pleasant Hill party. “That's what I'm happy about. Less money for gas and taxes. What I care about is what’s in my wallet.”

Trump received 277 electoral votes after winning critical swing states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia and North Carolina.

Only 270 votes are needed to win the presidency.

Harris had received 224 electoral votes as of Wednesday morning, with swing state results still pending in Michigan, Nevada and Arizona.
