“John Amos' Final Role on NBC's 'Suits LA': Get the Details”

John Amos, who has died aged 84, will soon be seen in his final role on NBC Fits LA. Amos' death was announced Tuesday by his son, Kelly Christopher Amos.

Amos was cast as a guest star in the series Suits: LA Pilot by Aaron Korsh. He played himself as a client in the law firm of Ted (Stephen Amell), with whom Ted also has a long-standing friendship.

The pilot was picked up to series in July and will therefore air when the series premieres later this season. Even though Amos' guest appearance wasn't intended to be part of an ongoing series, we've heard that there was a possibility that he could return. He will now only appear in the pilot.

The new Suits It centers on Amell's Ted Black, a former New York federal prosecutor who has reinvented himself as a representative of the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His company is in crisis and in order to survive he must take on a role he has held with disdain throughout his career.

The main cast also includes Lex Scott Davis, who released a tribute to Amos following news of his death.

Amos' career spanned more than five decades in television and film. One of his most memorable roles is that of family patriarch James Evans in Norman Lear. Good times, WJN-TV weatherman Gordy Howard on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and as adult Kunta Kinte in the miniseries roots, for which he received an Emmy nomination.

His other television appearances included roles in Hunter, 704 homearound The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, as well as The Ward, the Andersons, the West Wing And Men in trees. One of his most memorable roles in film was in 1988 Coming to America as Cleo McDowell alongside Eddie Murphy's Prince Akeem. He also reprized the role in the 2021 sequel. His last film role was in 2023 The last shooterwritten by Kevin Fitzpatrick and directed by Terry Loane.
