John Amos' daughter found out about the actor's death in August through the media

The daughter of John Amos, the Good times The actress, whose death at the age of 84 was announced on Tuesday, revealed that she learned of her father's death at the same time as the public, even though Amos died in August.

“I'm at a loss for words… Our family received the heartbreaking news that my father, John Allen Amos Jr., transitioned on August 21st,” Shannon Amos wrote on social media on Tuesday, hours after her brother KC publicly announced her father's death

“We are devastated and have many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, as we, like so many of you, found out about it through the media.”

In the years before Amos's death, his children were involved in a bitter and public dispute over his care and inheritance, with both siblings making accusations against each other; as the Hollywood Reporter Shannon wrote about the family power struggles in a 2023 feature, accusing KC of elder abuse, misusing finances and imitating his own father. KC has denied all claims.

The rift between the siblings apparently disappeared to the point where neither communicated with each other, and so on Tuesday, Shannon learned that her father had died when KC made a statement to the media announcing that his father died in August.

On trend

Shannon Amos continued: “This should be a time to honor and celebrate his life, but we are struggling to cope with the wave of emotions and uncertainty that his death brings.” Yet there is a semblance of peace, When I know my father is finally free.”

According to KC's statement on Tuesday, the actor died of natural causes on August 21 in Los Angeles. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved around the world,” the statement said. “Many fans consider him their TV dad. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding work as an actor on television and film.”
