Jim Harbaugh: We need to give Justin Herbert more time to throw

The Chargers suffered a 17-10 home loss to the Chiefs on Sunday afternoon and head coach Jim Harbaugh focused on the team's pass protection when discussing why the team fell short.

Quarterback Justin Herbert suffered an ankle injury and was sacked twice during the afternoon while being pressured 12 times. Several of those pressures resulted in throws while Herbert was hit, and the quarterback finished the day 16 of 27 for 179 yards.

“We have that must get “Justin, half a second, second, we can really do this,” Harbaugh said, via Kris Rhim of ESPN.com. “I mean, he tries to get the ball out as quickly as possible, and he does. And like I said, I don't have an adjective for some of those throws he made. It is warlike; It's everything that's in his human power and more, that's how I see it. It's incredible what he can do. We have to give him more (time), just one more second.”

The Chargers played without tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt in the loss, so they can hope for better health from Herbert and the offensive line as they return to action following their Week 5 bye. If this doesn't solve the protection problem, the Chargers will have to dig a little deeper to fix a major problem with their offense.
