Jenna Fischer called Christina Applegate after her cancer diagnosis

Jenna Fischer called Christina Applegate after her cancer diagnosis

Jenna Fischer shares more about her battle with breast cancer.

On Monday, the Office Stern sat down Todayis Hoda Kotb and revealed that Christina Applegate was one of the first people she reached out to for support after her diagnosis.

“I called her and she answered the phone and said, 'Which one is this?' And I said, “It's breast cancer.” And she said, 'I fucking knew it.'”

The two shared each other's experiences, as Applegate was also diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. And Fischer wasn't surprised by Applegate's reaction: “She's salty.” That's salty language. I love her for that,” Fischer said.

Following their conversation, Applegate connected her with other survivors, and Fischer said they took their journeys “together.”

Fischer first revealed earlier this month that she was privately battling an “aggressive form” of breast cancer. The actress noted that she found out she had stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer after a routine mammogram. Her treatment included surgery, chemotherapy and radiation – and it was successful, as she also announced that she was now cancer-free.

Fischer's appearance on Today was the first time she was seen on camera with short hair in an interview since losing it due to treatment.

“I mean, when they told me I had to do chemotherapy, the first thing I thought was, 'I don't want to throw up and I don't want to lose my hair,'” she said.

“I didn’t throw up, but I lost my hair,” Fischer continued. “And that’s all us ladies talk about. How much I've googled hair and pictures of hair and asked, “What will it look like?” It's funny. The way I lost it, it doesn’t come out evenly.”

She initially wore wigs to keep her diagnosis a secret, but now she's ready to embrace her short hair and “throw away the wigs.”

Fischer also said her two children, 10 and 13, reacted with a “great sense of humor” when they saw their mother's new hair.
