Jason Kelce apologizes for phone crash that went viral

On Saturday, former NFL safety analyst and current ESPN analyst Jason Kelce gave a troll more than he bargained for. grabbed his cell phone and smashed it after the troll does what trolls often do. The video went viral.

Kelce's actions were overwhelmingly defended and supported. We haven't seen any criticism of Kelce from anyone.

Nevertheless, Kelce decided to publicly apologize for the incident right at the beginning of Monday night countdown leading up to the Buccaneers-Chiefs game.

“I think everyone on social media saw everything that happened this week,” Kelce said via AwfulAnncreasing.com. “Look, I’m not – I’m not happy with everything that happened. I'm not proud of it and, you know, in a heated moment, I have decided to meet hate with hateand I just don't think that's a productive thing to do. I really don't.

“I don't think that creates a discourse, and it's – and it's the right way to do things.” And in that moment, I fell to a level that I shouldn't have. I think the bottom line is: I want to live my life – I try to live my life by the golden rule. I was always taught that. I try to treat people with decency and respect, and I will continue to do so, even if I failed to do so last week – even if I failed to do so this week, I will continue to do so in the future and continue to do so.

“So yeah, I think we have a game to focus on. Obviously, I don't think the matchup is the right platform to necessarily delve into. So let’s get ready for this Chiefs game.”

There is undoubtedly an interesting story to be told about how the apology came about, why it happened where it did, and who wrote and reviewed his statement.

Again, no one demanded an apology. Many who tuned in Monday night countdown may not even have known about it. The apology would have caused confusion for them.

It was still an impressive gesture. We need more redemption, forgiveness and reconciliation. We'll definitely need more of this tomorrow, or whenever one of the most contentious elections in the country's history is finally decided.
