Jaguars senior writer answers your late-night questions after the 2024 Week 2 loss

Lawrence is hurting the team – give him some time off to clear his head. The last game we won was with backup!!

Lawrence actually has problems. While it's fair to note that he had a few really nice throws on Sunday — notably a 32-yard completion to rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. that set up a touchdown in the third quarter — it's just as fair of note, he missed Thomas in the third quarter in the first quarter and left wide receiver Christian Kirk wide open for touchdowns in the third quarter. He has to play better. He had protection on Sunday and was still struggling. The Jaguars won't give him time to find his feet. He is the starting quarterback. He has to find out.

The biggest problem today was the lack of two receivers open for touchdowns. The inability to complete the deep balls is glaring. We also have to complete more than 54 percent of our passes. The O-line seemed to be playing pretty well, so the issue didn't look like pressure.

How much money is invested in our defense line? And what exactly do you think you would do?

This was the much-hyped, often reactionary and sometimes poignant first email of the game. It happened on the Texans' first drive of the game. It wasn't the only email in this direction. In this particular email, there were two questions about the Jaguars' defensive line. Two answers. Firstly, a lot of money was invested in the defensive line. Secondly, the unit's performance has been good enough so far this season. Things got better as the game continued on Sunday.

1st place and goal at the 4 yard line, 1st place and goal at the 4 yard line, 1st place and goal at the 4 yard line…

In fact, the Jaguars faced a first-and-goal at the Texans' 4-yard line late in the third quarter. Running back Tank Bigsby should have scored on the 58-yard run that set the situation up. From there, the Jaguars should be able to score in four plays. It defined the game. It also kind of defined the season.

The passing offense is simply not good. The statement “execution” does not explain everything.

On Sunday it was better in places. There were moments. Moments and spots in the third year of the offensive system and quarterback are not good enough.

The season may not be over for the players, but for the fans this season is now meaningless. I think this team can get a few wins this year and play hard until the end. However, that is simply not enough.

Why can't TL finish a game?

That's a legitimate question. That's something that a lot of people – Lawrence included – around the Jaguars have to answer. The sooner the better.

Once again, this team can't convert third downs and can't stop third downs on defense. What does this team actually work on during the week, KOAF?

What's going on with ETN? He was listed as healthy, but it's clear there's more afoot. Hopefully you will receive an informed answer and not “coach speak”.

Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. suffered an injury in the first quarter and returned to the game. This is not CoachSpeak. That's what happened.

This team and this season are absolute nonsense. I don't know how I'm going to do this 13 more times.

0-17 seems possible, right?

Oh, and four sucks. The Jaguars just lost a game they could have – and probably should have – won on the road against the AFC South leaders. They won't go 0-17. That's absolutely no consolation at the moment, but they won't be able to finish 0-17.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are the worst football team in the National Football League.
