'It was my decision to bat first but...': Rohit Sharma on Team India's collapse

NEW DELHI: After India's miserable batting collapse on the second day of the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru, captain Rohit Sharma expressed disappointment and said it was painful to witness such a low score.
Rohit also admitted that his decision to bat first might have backfired but stressed that a rare bad call in a year was acceptable.
“It hurts me to see this score of 46 as captain because it was my decision to bat first. But one or two bad decisions in a year is okay,” Rohit said after the match day.
India slumped to their lowest home Test score of 46 against New Zealand after pacers Matt Henry and William O'Rourke combined to bowl out the hosts in just 31.2 overs in the second session.
This was India's third lowest score in Test cricket, after 36 all-outs against Australia in the 2020 pink-ball Test at Adelaide and 42 all-outs against England at Lord's in 1974.
India's previous lowest home score was 62, including against New Zealand in Mumbai in 2021.
Devon Conway's opening 91 gave New Zealand a lead of 134 at stumps on a dramatic second day in Bengaluru.
New Zealand were 180-3 at the end of the game, with Rachin Ravindra on 22 and Daryl Mitchell on 14, when the score was drawn in a prolonged session.
