Isaac Wilson starts for Utah football and opts out

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham announced that Isaac Wilson will be the team's starting quarterback until further notice and Cam Rising is out indefinitely.

The news came in Whittingham's press conference Monday morning following the team's loss to Arizona State in Tempe.

“Tough weekend in Tempe. “Cam Rising is out indefinitely, Isaac Wilson will be our starter until further notice,” Whittingham said.

Utah struggled to get anything going on offense against the Sun Devils and ultimately lost 27-19.

“Cam is a warrior, he wanted to play. At the end of the half we started moving the ball. I didn’t get into the end zone,” Whittingham continued. “That continued in the second half. We've thought about it and talked about it, but he's a vet and would let us know if he couldn't go.”

What happened to Cam Rising?

Rising has struggled with injuries for most of his college football career. He missed all of last season due to a knee injury.

This season, he injured his throwing hand in the team's game against the Baylor Bears.

In Friday's game against Arizona State, Rising appeared to be pretty banged up and possibly have a lower leg injury. Whittingham confirmed it was a lower leg injury that sidelined Rising.
