Inter Miami CF wins the 2024 Supporters' Shield

For the first time in the club's history Inter Miami CF won the Supporters' Shield. The team secured the best overall MLS season of 2024 today with a 2-3 win over the Columbus Crew; A brace from captain Lionel Messi, a goal from striker Luis Suárez and a penalty save from Drake Callender secured the team's historic result. The trophy secures Inter Miami first place in the Eastern Conference and home field advantage during the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.

As winners of the Supporters' Shield, Inter Miami qualified to participate in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup, marking the team's second consecutive season participating in the competition. The team reached the quarterfinals of the competition in 2024. Inter Miami can still secure a bye to the round of 16 of the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup by winning the 2024 MLS Cup.

The team will host a home playoff game for the first time in club history when it faces the winner of the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Wild Card game between the numbers 8 and 9 of the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs round one of the best- of-3 series. Inter Miami will host the first game of the series and the third if necessary at Chase Stadium, and the team's opponent will host the second game of the series. The schedule for the first round of the best-of-3 series will be finalized with the release of the full Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs schedule.

Inter Miami debuted in MLS in 2020 and is now only the sixth active club to win the Supporters' Shield in their first five seasons in the league; They are also the 17th club in the league's 29 seasons to win the Supporters' Shield. Since expanding the regular season to 34 games in 2011, Miami became only the third team to win the Supporters' Shield after missing the playoffs the previous season, joining LAFC in 2022 and the San Jose Earthquakes in 2012 .

Head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino has led Inter Miami CF to a record-breaking season in which the club set historic statistics. Impressive achievements include becoming the third fastest club to earn a playoff spot and dominating the league by recording the most wins, goals and points in club history (with games to play).

In his second year at the helm, Martino has engineered a historic turnaround for the team, moving from 27th place in the Supporters' Shield race in 2023 to first place in 2024. He has led Inter Miami to a 20W-4L-8D record with a +25 goals difference with two games remaining in the regular season. The Supporters' Shield marks Martino's ninth trophy as a manager in club soccer and fourth as an MLS head coach.

The team was also guided by the contributions of its diverse group of players, including global superstars Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba; local academy products Benjamin Cremaschi, David Ruiz, Ian Fray and Noah Allen; MLS SuperDraft selects Yannick Bright and Leo Afonso; young talents from around the world such as Diego Gómez, Federico Redondo and Tomás Avilés; Veterans in their prime with winning experience such as Julian Gressel and Matías Rojas; loyal goalkeeper and team leader Drake Callender; and everything in between.

Notably, Messi performed exceptionally throughout the regular season, scoring an outstanding 17 goals and 15 assists, a team-high, in just 17 games. Suárez also played a crucial role for the team in his first season with the club, leading the team with 18 goals and adding six assists in that regular season. The duo provided several standout individual moments en route to the Supporters' Shield, becoming the first pair of teammates in MLS history to each win the MLS Player of the Matchday award at least three times in a season.

With two regular season games remaining, Inter Miami is chasing the MLS single-season points record. The team must win both remaining games to break the New England Revolution's 2021 total of 73 points, ending with a Decision Day match against New England:
