Instant analysis | The Commanders move to 5-2 with a 40-7 win over the Panthers

It's probably difficult for Washington Commanders fans to describe how they're feeling right now.

Washington, returning to Northwest Stadium after a Week 6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens to face the Carolina Panthers and wearing the jersey number of retired Hall of Fame cornerback Darrell Green, rolled the struggling NFC South foe on both sides of the Balls. They were up 34-0 six minutes into the third quarter, and the defense, which had the fewest forced interceptions in the league on the day, got two, one of which was returned for a touchdown, as part of an overall overcoming performance .

As exciting as it is for the Burgundy & Gold faithful, most of their attention was on quarterback Jayden Daniels, who left the 40-7 win in the first quarter with a rib injury.

It's unclear what play Daniels suffered the injury on, but it occurred on the opening drive of the Commanders offense. Daniels opened the day with a 46-yard run, taking Washington all the way to the Panthers' 5-yard line, but it was clear he felt some discomfort. The drive ended with a field goal and Daniels went to the blue medical tent after speaking to the medical staff.

Daniels tried to warm up for the Commanders' next offensive possession, but still felt some discomfort. He went to the locker room and left at the start of the second half. He returned to the sidelines in street clothes and waved to the crowd, apparently in good spirits.

Coach Dan Quinn did not provide an update on Daniels' status after the game, but acknowledged the quarterback would undergo further testing on Monday.
