Haunted attraction signs stolen

Haunted attraction signs stolen

PEDRO, Ohio (WSAZ) – With less than two weeks until Halloween, spooky attractions are at the peak of their season.

Organizers of one attraction said a fraudster had crossed a limit that could potentially affect their numbers.

Horror in the Holler is a haunted trail along Township Highway 140 East in Pedro, Ohio. It has been in operation for several years.

Sierra Markel is president of the Izaak Walton League of Lawrence County.

The Haunted Trail is a fundraiser for this organization.

She says within a few days last week, several signs were posted indicating her location had been stolen. One was located a few miles away on State Route 93 and another was in Coal Grove.

“The one on 93 was worth about $120,” Markel said. “They were vinyl prints from Fast Signs in Ashland.”

Asked if she thought about why anyone would accept the signs, she replied: “I’m not sure. We're just a small nonprofit, but we give so much back to the community. I don’t understand why anyone would want to take anything from us.”

She says the stolen signs have been replaced and one has a surveillance camera installed.

“These signs are vital,” Markel said, “and our location is very remote, which adds even more excitement to where we are, but at the same time it is so difficult to advertise and make sure everyone here is safe.”

Horror in the last days of operation of the Holler this season are this Friday and Saturday.
