“'Good Omens' ends 90-minute episode as Neil Gaiman exits”

Good omens receives a final farewell, albeit a shortened one.

The Amazon fantasy drama will end with a 90-minute episode instead of a full third season, with creator Neil Gaiman exiting after numerous women made allegations against him.

Michael Sheen and David Tennant, who play the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley respectively, will return for the one-off TV movie, which will begin filming in Scotland in early 2025 after pre-production was paused amid the allegations.

Gaiman helped write the series finale, but will not be working on the production and his production company, Blank Corporation, is no longer involved. A new writer is expected to complete the work, although insiders said the deal has not yet been finalized.

This came after Tortoise Media released a podcast that recorded accounts of two women he was in consensual relationships with accusing him of sexual assault. Two more have now come forward. Gaiman denies the accusation.

Last month, Deadline revealed that Gaiman had offered to resign Good omens would be able to finish his story.

Sheen plays Aziraphale, a picky angel and rare book dealer, while Tennant plays the fast-living demon Crowley. Jon Hamm, Miranda Richardson and Frances McDormand also star. It is based on the 1990 novel by Terry Pratchett.

The series was renewed for its third and final season last year. Gaiman served as writer, showrunner and executive producer. He is the latest high-profile crew member to leave the show after co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon, who also served as director and executive producer, left the series after the first two seasons.

In August, Sheen said he was “excited” about what's in store for the series, saying that “season three will be a satisfying experience for everyone.”

Rob Wilkins of Narrativia, representing the estate of Terry Pratchett, and Josh Cole, head of comedy at BBC Studios Productions, will serve as executive producers. The new season is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions and Narrativia.
