Georgia Power Update for Hurricane Helene Impact

Georgia Power Update for Hurricane Helene Impact

Georgia Power crews are working around the clock to restore power following Hurricane Helene, which caused significant damage in the southeastern region. Area Manager Joel Hanner reports that restoration work is underway, with more resources arriving daily and estimated restoration times expected by late Saturday.

With Hurricane Helene now out of the area, Georgia Power is working diligently to safely and quickly restore service to all affected customers. The first step in restoring power after a storm event is damage assessment, which can be done both remotely and on site. Damage assessment teams examine areas to determine what tools, resources and materials are needed to restore power to the greatest number of customers in the most efficient manner. Across the southeast region, teams conducting damage assessments experienced accessibility difficulties due to extensive tree damage and debris. As you know, the fifteen (15) counties of the Southeast Region were among the areas most affected by the storm.

Additional cleanup resources arrived in our area throughout the day, with a significant influx expected on Saturday. Recovery activities will continue uninterrupted and 24/7 until every customer is restored. Georgia Power expects to have estimated restoration times for remaining outages by geographic area late Saturday afternoon.

On behalf of the thousands of Georgia Power employees, contractors and outside resources working to restore operations in the Southeast region, we thank you for your patience and understanding.
