Garth Brooks is accused of rape in the trial of a former makeup artist

Garth Brooks has been accused of sexual assault and assault in a lawsuit filed by Jane Roe — a hairdresser and makeup artist for the country star.

According to TheWrap, the alleged incidents occurred back in 2019. Roe claimed she was once raped by Brooks while she was working for him at an event. The singer has previously denied the allegations.

One incident occurred in May 2019 when Roe flew to Los Angeles with Brooks to record a Grammy tribute to Sam Moore. The lawsuit accuses Brooks of raping her in the hotel room during the trip.

“There were usually others on Brooks' private jet, but this time Ms. Roe and Brooks were the only two passengers,” the complaint states. “When she arrived at the hotel in Los Angeles, Ms. Roe could not believe that Brooks had booked a one-bedroom hotel suite and she did not have a separate room.”

Brooks filed a pre-emptive complaint to prevent Roe from speaking out again. He tried to do this anonymously – under the pseudonym “John Doe”. The plaintiff in this case was described only as a “celebrity and public figure residing in Tennessee.”

“Brooks desperately wants to prevent his millions of fans from knowing about the terrible things he said and did to a young employee who did nothing to deserve such treatment,” the lawsuit says.

The plaintiff is represented by Douglas Wigdor, who has previously filed numerous #MeToo lawsuits against Harvey Weinstein and others. The documents were filed Thursday in Los Angeles.

“We applaud our client’s courage in moving forward with her complaint against Garth Brooks,” Wigdor said in a statement. “Today's complaint shows that sexual predators exist not only in corporate America, Hollywood, and the rap and rock and roll industries, but also in the world of country music. We are confident that Brooks will be held accountable for his actions and that his efforts to silence our client by filing a preemptive lawsuit in Mississippi were nothing more than an act of desperation and attempted intimidation. We encourage others who may have been victimized to reach out to us as no survivor should suffer in silence.”

The country star's pre-emptive lawsuit was filed on September 13 and requested an injunction barring Roe from pursuing her lawsuit.

“Defendant's allegations are untrue,” Brooks' previous lawsuit said. “The defendant, however, recognizes the significant, irreparable harm that such false allegations would cause to the plaintiff’s well-deserved reputation as a decent and caring human being, along with the inevitable harm to his family and the irreparable harm to his career and livelihood.” This is what would happen if she followed through on her threat to “publicly file” her fabricated lawsuit.
