Garrett Wilson gives Jets fans a treat on Halloween with a one-handed touchdown grab in a win over the Texans

Garrett Wilson gives Jets fans a treat on Halloween with a one-handed touchdown grab in a win over the Texans

The New York Jets are back on the winning list after defeating the Houston Texans 21-13 on Thursday night.

This Halloween night initially had a lot of tricks for Jets fans, but when the final whistle blew, it was a treat, and that was thanks to the sticky hands of Garrett Wilson, who not one, but two one-handed touchdown grabs to lead the Jets' offense.

The best shot of the night came on a seemingly impossible third-and-19 for the Jets at the Houston 26-yard line, when Aaron Rodgers fired one high into the sky on the left sideline.

Wilson, enveloped by Kamari Lassiter in the end zone, jumped and grabbed the ball one-handed to the amazement of the MetLife Stadium crowd. However, he initially had to be out of bounds because both of his feet were not in the black painted end zone.

However, video replay revealed that Wilson's shin was on the ball, giving the Jets a 14-10 lead after new kicker Riley Patterson hit the extra point.

Wilson's first touchdown of the night also came in the second half, as the Jets were desperate for offense after failing to score in the first half.

On second-and-12 from Houston's 21-yard line, Rodgers, under pressure in the pocket, flung a pass to Wilson, who released his Texas defender. He reached out with his right hand and caught it without anyone in front of him, making it a 21-yard score.

Wilson finished the night with 90 yards and two touchdowns on nine receptions to lead the Jets.

This was the spark the Jets needed after coming into this game 2-6 after being upset by the woeful New England Patriots the week before. However, in the first half there were plenty of boos and even chants of “Sell the team!” which was directed at the owner, Woody Johnson, who was in his suite.

One of the main reasons was the lack of production on offense, but also a terrible mistake by rookie receiver Malachi Corley, who had to retire his first career touchdown because he decided to release the football at the one-yard line.

This has happened too many times in football history, and Corley contributed to it even more, as the Jets' only productive offense ended with a touchback and the Texans' possession.

The Jets' defense made up for it, however, as CJ Stroud and the Texans' offense struggled to get going all night.

Aside from Joe Mixon setting the tone in the running game with 106 yards on runs, Stroud's absence of Stefon Diggs and Nico Collins, his two top targets, who are out due to injuries, clearly hurt.

Stroud found Tank Dell for six catches for 126 yards, and Mixon managed to get into the end zone in the second quarter for the only points of the first half, but that was all the Texans had to offer.

The dagger came late in the fourth quarter when Rodgers finally found Davante Adams in the end zone with a beautifully thrown fade for a 37-yard score. Adams had returned to the field after undergoing a concussion evaluation.

Stroud tried to lead the Texans to an impossible comeback, but Adams blocked an onside kick, sealing the victory.

Rodgers finished the game completing 22 of 32 passes for 211 yards with his three touchdown passes and no interceptions, while Stroud was just 11 of 30 for 191 yards.
