Michigan Football takes on the top team in the country at home on Saturday.

The Wolverines (5-3) host the No. 1 Oregon Ducks (8-0) at Michigan Stadium looking to pull off a massive upset. Michigan returned to the win list last weekend by defeating Michigan State to retain control of the Paul Bunyan Trophy and move one win away from bowl eligibility.

Oregon was a bully in its first year in the new, expanded Big Ten Conference. The Ducks won their first five conference games, four by 21 points or more, and beat No. 4 Ohio State by one point to climb to the top spot in the country. Last week, Oregon beat Illinois, the last team to beat Michigan, 38-9.

Michigan can earn a shot at a bowl game and its biggest win of the season if it beats the Ducks. The Wolverines are 1-1 at home against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game, with a blowout loss to Texas and a comeback win against USC.

Michigan vs Oregon live updates, match highlights

All-American cornerback Will Johnson is out for the second straight game with a lower-body injury he suffered against Illinois, and Michigan's second outside starter Jyaire Hill is also out with an undisclosed injury. Right tackle Andrew Gentry is also out for the season with the injury he suffered last week against Michigan State. Defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny and running back Jordan Marshall are listed as questionable.

Notes before the Michigan vs. Oregon game

Michigan returned Davis Warren at quarterback against MSU and the offense moved the ball consistently for the first time in a month. Michigan had its first turnover-free offensive game this season and used a few tricks to create big passing plays and enforce the power-running approach.

But this weekend presents a completely different challenge for Michigan. Oregon ranks 10th nationally in scoring defense and has given up over 14 points just twice this season against two playoff contenders in OSU and Boise State. Michigan will have to lean on a defense that dominated the second half against MSU and find a way to keep the ball on offense to keep Oregon's offense off the field.

The Ducks rank 12th in passing (300 yards per game), 62nd on the ground (167.1 yards) and 25th in scoring (35 points per game). Oklahoma transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel has thrived in his final college season with 19 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 76.2% completion rate this year. Running back Jordan James and receiver Tez Johnson lead a group of talented skill position players capable of breaking up big plays.

Michigan vs. Oregon prediction, tips

Tony Garcia, Detroit Free Press: Michigan avoided a 0-point score for October with a win against MSU, but its problems are far from solved. UM fell to Illinois and was neck-and-neck with MSU, two teams beaten by Oregon by at least three points. For the first time since the game against Texas in Week 2, UM will be at a disadvantage in the trenches. Things didn't go well back then, and it's hard to imagine how things could have gone so differently. The choice: Oregon 31, Michigan 16.
