The No. 1 Oregon football team hosts another top-25 opponent this Saturday when it takes on No. 21 Illinois in a Big Ten Conference showdown.

The Ducks (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) play the Fighting Illini (6-1, 3-1) at Autzen Stadium in Eugene at 12:30 p.m.

Oregon is coming off a 35-0 win at Purdue, while Illinois has won two straight, including last week's 21-7 home victory over Michigan.

Oregon vs. Illinois score updates

The No. 1 Ducks scored five touchdowns in the first half to build a 35-3 lead, after which Oregon defeated the No. 21 Illini.

With the win, the Ducks improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Big Ten play. Next up is a trip to Michigan for a game against the 2023 national champions next Saturday at the Big House in Ann Arbor.

Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 291 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed to get a score. Running back Noah Whittington also ran for a score and caught a touchdown pass.

The Oregon defense allowed just 292 yards and stopped the Illini three times on fourth down attempts.

Austin Novosad replaced Dillon Gabriel with 8:18 to play in the fourth quarter and the Ducks lead 38-9. Gabriel finished the game completing 18 of 26 passes for 291 yards, three TDs and one interception. He also rushed to get a score.

Reserve cornerback Sione Laulea III made his first interception as a Duck when he stepped in front of a pass from Illinois QB Luke Altmyer with 8:18 to play. Laulea returned the ball 12 yards to the Illinois 47.

Andrew Boyle kicked a 44-yard field and the Ducks' first points of the second half came with 9:04 left in the game.

Oregon's QB was intercepted on the second play of the fourth quarter when Tyson Rooks stepped in front of a deep pass intended for Evan Stewart. Rooks returned the ball 23 yards to Oregon's 47 yards. Illinois takes over there with 14:10 before the start of the game.

The Ducks will have the ball at their own 33 when play resumes.

The Illini got into the end zone for the first time Saturday on a 4-yard run by Ca'Lil Valentine with 46 seconds left in the third quarter. The score ensured that the Oregon defense did not allow any touchdowns for seven straight quarters.

Linebacker Emar'rion Winston hit a pass from the 2-yard line on fourth down, putting the ball back in the Ducks' offense at 10:44 of the third quarter. Illinois opened the second half on offense and moved into scoring position on a 44-yard reception from Zakhari Franklin at the Oregon 8.

Dillon Gabriel threw a 2-yard TD pass to Noah Whittington as the Ducks scored again with 29 seconds left before halftime.

Gabriel has now thrown for 246 yards and three touchdowns on 16 of 20 passing while the Oregon defense has held Illinois to 89 total yards.

Noah Whittington ran for an 18-yard touchdown with 6:09 left in the first half. The final yards came after he cleared Illinois safety Miles Scott at the 2-yard line.

Dillon Gabriel scored on a 7-yard run at 12:20 of the second quarter, capping a drive that included a 16-yard pass reception by tight end Kenyon Sadiq on third-and-17, followed by a 19-yarder -Tight end Patrick Herbert's catch-and-run on fourth-and-1 to bring the Ducks to the Illini 18.

The Ducks have the ball at their own 48 and face third-and-12 when play resumes.

The Illini scored on a 38-yard field goal by David Olano with 1:34 left in the first quarter.

Safety Tysheem Johnson intercepted a deep pass from Illinois QB Luke Altmyer and the Ducks had the ball at their own 14 with 5:04 left in the first quarter.

Wide receiver Justius Lowe caught a 34-yard TD pass from Dillon Gabriel as the Ducks took a two-touchdown lead with 6:05 to play in the first quarter. It was the first touchdown catch of his career for Lowe and the second 30-yard TD pass of the game for Gabriel.

Illinois' first drive featured a 5-yard pass completion, a 10-yard sack by Teitum Tuioti and a zero-yard rush as the Ducks forced a punt from the Illini 20. Oregon recovers the ball at its own 42 with 8:46 left to play in the first quarter.

The Ducks' first drive went 83 yards in nine plays, with Dillion Gabriel throwing a 31-yard TD pass to Tez Johnson at 10:49 of the first quarter. The pass on third-and-6 was intercepted by Johnson at the Illini 22 and he weaved past defenders toward the left sideline before diving into the end zone.

Illinois won the coin toss and was postponed to the second half. Dillon Gabriel and Co. will soon take the field for the Ducks.

According to the Oregon track and field team, a Ducks victory on Saturday would mean:

  • Be the Ducks' third player this season ahead of a team currently ranked in the top 25 of the AP Poll.
  • Make Oregon 8-0 to start the season for the first time since 2013 and the fifth time in program history.
  • Improve the UO to 7-1 all-time while ranked No. 1 in the nation.
  • Go 5-0 at home with the Ducks to open the season for the second straight season.
  • Ranks Oregon 36th in its last 37 home games and would move UO to 45-3 at home since 2017.
  • Make UO 3-1 all-time against Illinois and 2-0 in Eugene.

Terrance Ferguson's midweek appendectomy prevented Oregon's star tight end from playing in the Ducks' shutout win over Purdue. last Friday.

However, it opened up an opportunity for Kenyon Sadiq, and the tight end took advantage with two memorable plays.

He will get another chance to shine on Saturday with Ferguson out for at least another game.

“Kenyon is a talented guy, and I think a lot of guys don't see what they can do on the field until they get their chance and their name is called,” quarterback Dillon Gabriel said. “It's definitely exciting for him and I think he's been working towards this the whole time and now we can see it so I'm proud of him.”

The Big Ten's availability report offered no surprises regarding the Ducks' expected lineup against the Illini.

Defensive end Jordan Burch (knee) will miss his third straight game and tight end Terrance Ferguson will miss his second straight game as he recovers from an appendectomy.

Also out are wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr., offensive lineman Matthew Bedford and cornerback Jahlil Florence – a trio of former or projected starters who haven't played all season, with the exception of a few snaps by Bedford late in the week three Oregon game. State.

Offensive lineman Dave Iuli is listed as questionable for the first time this season. He was sidelined all fall recovering from an offseason foot injury.
