Freeze warning brings chilly winter weather to parts of NY, New Jersey

Time to wrap up!

This week's weather may give you goosebumps as a freeze warning has been issued for several counties in New Jersey and the Hudson Valley, while parts of Connecticut are under a freeze warning.

Tri-State residents should be on guard as temperatures fall below 30 degrees Wednesday through Thursday morning, the National Weather Service said.

Wednesday morning's low temperatures come a day after New York City recorded its coldest morning since late April.

While temperatures dropped in the Big Apple, more northern New Yorkers have already woken up to below-freezing temperatures in parts of Dutchess and Ulster County this week.

The colder temperatures also felt even worse this week, as gale-force winds gusted over 50 mph on Monday but were only expected to reach around 20 mph on Wednesday, according to NBC 4.

The average overnight low temperature in Central Park is in the low 50s in mid-October, but Thursday temperatures are expected to be about 10 degrees colder, the outlet reported.

“Frost and freeze conditions could destroy crops and other sensitive vegetation and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the National Weather Service warned. “Take steps now to protect sensitive plants from the cold.”

Cool conditions are expected in several Connecticut counties, including Northern Fairfield, Northern Middlesex, Northern New Haven and Northern New London. Warnings were also issued for western Passaic County in New Jersey and Orange and Putnam counties in New York.

While New Yorkers should bundle up and prepare for the cold, colder temperatures are expected to rise again by the weekend. Forecasts suggest temperatures will reach around 70 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday.
