When he appeared on stage at the Latrobe Building in Pennsylvania, Trump spoke for about 90 minutes. He spent an extraordinary amount of time with Palmer, who was born in the western Pennsylvania town and died in 2016.

The Republican presidential leader described Palmer as “a man” and highlighted the late golfer's biography, saying: “When he was showering with other pros, they came out of there and said, 'Oh my God, this is incredible'.”

Trump even stated that he “had to say it,” but refrained from saying anything more direct out of respect for the “highly sophisticated” women in the audience.

While rally participants laughed at his comments, social media reacted critically to the comments and expressed outrage. The founder and president of the think tank Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology (CSPI), Richard Hanania, shared his video on social media.

“Imagine what he will say when his brain is four years older,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, communications strategist TJ Adams-Falconer pointed out that Trump spoke for 15 minutes and ended his speech with “a story about the size” of Arnold Palmer's genitals.

Pablo Torre, a sportswriter and TV host, joked: “Tons of Americans are voting for Trump so they can call things 'gay' again, and meanwhile their husband is out here daydreaming about the late Arnold Palmer's literal penis.”

In a tweet, anti-Trump Republicans emphasized that Palmer was “appalled” by Trump, according to his daughter Peg. “He (Palmer) was appalled by Trump's lack of civility and what he began to see as Trump's lack of character,” she explained in 2020.

News organizations were forced to draw attention to Trump's comments: NJ.com called them “crude,” the Daily Mail called the incident “bizarre,” and Politico simply called them “salacious.”
