After isolated incidents of break-in and vandalism Wednesday in the hours after the Dodgers' World Series win, police are hoping Friday's championship parade and related celebrations go off without a hitch.

“We expect a safe, family-friendly event to celebrate our Dodgers,” said LAPD Cmdr. said Steve Lurie. “While I expect large crowds, we believe they will be completely peaceful and we will be on scene along with the fire department and sheriff's department to ensure everyone's safety.”

Lurie said the 11 a.m. parade could bring 100,000 people to downtown Los Angeles, and he expects fans to start lining the route early. The LA County Sheriff's Department will patrol Grand Park, which is adjacent to the parade starting point at City Hall. California Highway Patrol officers will track the athletes' movements during the parade, he added.

He said there were no known threats associated with the event, but that hundreds of officers and support staff would be there – on foot, on bicycles and on horses. He said the parade is expected to last less than an hour.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. at Los Angeles City Hall and ends near 5th and Figueroa Streets. Dodgers members are transported in double-decker buses. A celebration will follow at Dodger Stadium at 12:15 p.m. Tickets are required for the event.

Authorities made more than a dozen arrests after street celebrations of the Dodgers' World Series victory led to a series of break-ins, vandalism and fires in some parts of Los Angeles.

There were break-ins or vandalism at several businesses in downtown LA, but exact details were not available. Los Angeles police said some in the crowd were “hostile” and threw objects at officers. Videos showed people being stolen from Nike's Jumpman LA flagship store on Broadway and cars doing donuts at intersections to the roar of bystanders.

A Metro bus was set on fire in Echo Park. One person was seriously injured when a firecracker exploded in their hand.

Officials said Friday's celebrations should be much quieter.

Lurle said streets in downtown LA will be closed before dawn. “That’s why government agencies encourage telework,” he said. “The city council canceled its meeting.”

Mayor Karen Bass called the unrest after the game “minor” and said she expected the perpetrators would be held accountable. She added that “the overwhelming majority of people out there celebrating…were peaceful, joyful and united.”

In East Los Angeles, several officers were attacked with fireworks on Whittier Boulevard, Sheriff Robert Luna said, including one whose vest burned after being hit by a firecracker. Another deputy was hit by someone with a pipe and another with a rock. Two people were arrested.
