DC Area Election Guide: Everything you need to know for Election Day 2024

Election Day is just around the corner: While there's no way to truly quell the all-encompassing anxiety you may be feeling, if you haven't voted yet, creating a voting plan can at least make your journey to the ballot box easier.

Washingtonian has compiled a list of Election Day resources for the DC area so you have no excuse not to vote on Tuesday, November 5th:

What should you bring with you to the election?

If you are registered to vote in Virginia, double-check your wallet for your driver's license or ID before going to your polling place. The Commonwealth requires ID to vote, but if you forget it, you can still do so sign an identification declaration to confirm your identity and cast a regular vote.

First time voter in Direct current And Maryland Individuals who have not verified their identity upon registration should bring ID and proof of residency, such as a utility bill, tuition fee certificate, or a copy of a rental agreement.

DC, Maryland and Virginia all allow same-day voter registration at polling places: bring ID and proof of residency.

Keep an eye on the weather forecast, but starting Monday Meteorologists predict partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the high 70s. Leave the umbrella at home, but it's worth packing a water bottle if the queues are long.

How do you get elected?

Rideshare companies will give you a discounted ride to your polling station on Tuesday: enter the code “VOTE24.” Uber app for 50% off a ride (up to $10). Lyft is offering the same 50% discount – also via code “VOTE24” – as well as a (frankly better) deal in partnership with the NAACP: Get up to $20 off two rides with code “NAACPVOTE24.” That’s a total of $40 saved between a trip to the polls and another trip home.

In Maryland, Montgomery County RideOn buses will not charge fare on Tuesday.

For assistance in Spanish or English, call 888-VE-Y-VOTA (888-839-8682) – NALEO Educational Fund representatives will answer your call.

For assistance in Arabic or English, call 844-YALLA-US (844-925-5287) – Arab American Institute representatives will answer your call.

For assistance in Asian languages ​​or English, call 888-API-VOTE (888-274-8683) – representatives from APIAVote or Asian Americans Advancing Justice will answer your call.
