“Days of Our Lives” veteran was 70

Drake Hogestyn, a Days of our lives The veteran who played John Black for nearly four decades has died. He was 70.

The actor's family shared a statement on the long-running soap opera's official Instagram account, announcing that he had died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,” the statement said. “He experienced the turning point of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he rose to the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After an incredible fight, he died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was the greatest husband, father, dad and actor. He loved performing for them days audience and share the stage with the best cast, crew and production team in the industry. We love him and we will all miss him Days of our lives.”

Hogestyn appeared for the first time on Days of our lives in 1986. He played John Black for 38 years, appearing in more than 4,200 episodes of NBC's popular soap opera.

His other acting credits include: Seven brides for seven brothers, generation, Beverly Hills Cowgirl Blues, A stormy night And Night sins.
