The firing of New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday and the oblique injury to New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr could impact trade talks with Las Vegas Raiders outside hitter Davante Adams.

“I think what happened in New York and New Orleans may have slowed down the talks with those two teams, and we'll see if and when they can gain some traction,” ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday NFL Live. “Because everyone assumes Adams will be traded, we just don’t know where or when.”

However, NFL reporter Josina Anderson reported that the Carr injury “does not necessarily affect New Orleans’ interest in continuing trade talks for Adams.”

She added that “agreement on draft pick compensation is still necessary. “The energy for this part of a potential transaction was stagnant even before Carr was injured,” noting that a source told her that “the Raiders urgently need a solution to the Davante situation because they are the ones paying him.” .

And NFL Network's Peter Schrager said Saleh's firing wouldn't necessarily preclude a trade:

My insight into what's going on at the Jets facility today: Joe Douglas is still working. The show goes on at Florham Park and I don't think a head coach change will stop the Jets from making any changes or additions to the roster this week. Decipher what you want from it.

Potential teams in the Adams market include Tashan Reed, Vic Tafur and Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Jets, Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers “remain interested in acquiring Adams after reaching out to the Raiders while the Buffalo Bills monitor the situation.”

The Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders are not pursuing Adams, according to this report, while the Dallas Cowboys “have inquired about the six-time Pro Bowler but have turned him down because they don't want to compete against him, according to league sources.” the remainder of his base salary this season, which is approximately $12.5 million.”

Adams has clear ties to both the Jets and Saints, having played with Aaron Rodgers at both the college (Fresno State) and professional levels (Raiders in 2022) during their time together in Green Bay and Carr.

In New York, Adams would give the Jets a strong receiver quartet joining Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and Mike Williams (assuming the Jets don't give up either Lazard or Williams in the deal). In New Orleans he would give the team a strong trio alongside Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.

Both teams could also use a spark. The Jets are now 2-3 after losing two straight games, which led to Saleh being fired on Tuesday, a key decision heading into a crucial divisional game against the 3-2 Buffalo Bills in Week 6.

The Saints are now 2-3 after losing three games in a row. The team appeared to be among the NFL's best after starting the season with wins over the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys, but has come back down to earth after losses to the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs.

Carr's oblique injury, which will likely sideline him for several weeks – the Saints play twice in the next 10 days, with a showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday before a Thursday Night Football showdown against the Denver on October 17th Broncos come – won I will not help the team change its fate. New Orleans now has to decide between starting rookie Spencer Rattler or Jake Haener in Carr's absence.
