Keri Russell is back in the second season of The Diplomat as US Ambassador to the UK Kate Wyler.

The Netflix political thriller returns on Halloween and less than a week before the upcoming US election, making it a great watch for both occasions.

The first season started in April 2023 and ended with Russell learning that the British Prime Minister is responsible for an attack on a British warship that brought them to Britain. Showrunner and creator Debora Cahn has confirmed that Season 2 will follow Kate's attempt to prove this.

“The US and UK do not spy on each other,” showrunner and creator Debora Cahn told Netflix. “In fact, they share all of their intelligence. So how do you investigate the Prime Minister? Who do you trust?”

The first season earned Russell a 2023 Emmy nomination in the category of Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

The Season 2 trailer, released earlier this month, featured scenes prominently filmed at the historic St. Paul's Cathedral in London, according to Netflix.

“We shot in St. Paul’s for four days,” Cahn told Netflix. “The robes our clergy wore were loaned to us by the cathedral. It was the fourth time they had ever been worn, including the funerals of Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher. It was breathtaking.”
