Some Dallas Cowboys fans are wary of signing wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers at the 2024 trade deadline.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys sent a 2025 fourth-rounder to the Panthers on Tuesday in exchange for Mingo and a 2025 seventh-rounder.

Mingo has made 12 catches for 121 yards in nine games for the Panthers so far this season.

The trade also comes after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said It will be announced Tuesday that quarterback Dek Prescott will likely be placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

Mingo, who was selected by the Panthers in the second round of the 2023 draft out of Mississippi, has yet to record a touchdown pass in the NFL. He made 55 catches for 539 yards in 24 appearances and 19 starts for the Panthers.

According to The Athletic's, Jones previously believed Mingo would be a top-50 pick for the 2023 draft Dan Brügler. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport wrote that the Cowboys “believe he has a high ceiling and will benefit from a fresh start.”

The deal received negative reviews compared to the Cowboys' deal with wide receiver Amari Cooper in 2022.

Cooper was traded to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2022 fifth-rounder and a sixth-round pick swap so Dallas could get his salary off their books.

The Cowboys gave up a fourth-rounder for 23-year-old Jonathan Mingo (55 catches, 539 yards, 0 touchdowns).
Contract situations are/were different, but so are production and talent.

At the start of this season, Cooper was traded again, this time from the Browns to the Buffalo Bills. He was sent along with a 2025 sixth-rounder in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick.

The New York Jets, meanwhile, acquired Davante Adams as a conditional 2025 third-rounder earlier this season, while the Baltimore Ravens sent a 2025 fifth-round pick to sign Diontae Johnson and a sixth-rounder.

This puts the Mingo deal on a similar level to other major wideout transactions that have taken place this fall.

The Cowboys are now without a pick in the next round, an especially tough loss for a franchise that drafted Prescott in the fourth round of the 2016 draft.

Sunday's Week 9 road loss to the Atlanta Falcons dropped the Cowboys to 3-5 on the season.

With Prescott on injured reserve and star wideout CeeDee Lamb questionable After suffering a shoulder injury last Sunday, Mingo could fill in as a target for backup Cooper Rush on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
