Cowboys Rumors: Jonathan Mingo To Be Acquired From Panthers At 2024 NFL Trade Deadline | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors

The Dallas Cowboys are acquiring wide receiver Jonathan Mingo along with a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Carolina Panthers for a 2025 fourth-rounder, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

During his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan (via The Athletic's Jon Machota), team owner Jerry Jones said the Cowboys would be buyers before the 4 p.m. ET trade deadline and named the receiver position:

A number of prominent wideouts have changed teams before the deadline, so it might be a little disheartening for the fan base to see Mingo as the ultimate choice for Dallas.

The 25-year-old, a second-round pick in the 2023 draft, has caught 55 passes for 539 yards in 24 career games. He's averaging just 13.4 yards per game in 2024, with two rookies (Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker) overtaking him in Carolina's offensive hierarchy.

To make matters worse, the Cowboys apparently didn't even get good value in the trade and instead paid a premium with the deadline just hours away.

Given recent events, Mingo remains a somewhat puzzling target even as a midseason signing.

Quarterback Dak Prescott is Reportedly expected will miss several weeks with a hamstring injury, and Jones said Tuesday that a stint on injured reserve may be imminent. If that's the case, the Cowboys are looking at at least four games with Cooper Rush or Trey Lance as the starting quarterback.

Dallas could be without Prescott indefinitely, and Jones just acquired a wideout who is still pretty raw and has more of a developmental outlook. It's hard to imagine how much Mingo can change the course of the team's season.

More than anything, the trade will serve as a microcosm for larger problems within the Cowboys organization.
